Mastroberardino Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Rosso DOC 2020

$32

Description and Tasting Notes

Piedirosso is an ancient grape of Campanian origin and is predominately grown around Naples and Avellino. Its name translates to red foot and reflects the vines color when it reaches full ripeness. It has generally been used as a blending grape with Aglianico,  but with an increased interest in the grape more monovarietal examples are being made.

Mastroberardino are seventh generation wine makers that have heroed indigenous grape varieties of Mount Vesuvius and Campania such as Piedirosso.   Their version is a benchmark in monovarietal examples of Piedirosso. It is an  elegant wine with an intense ruby red colour, fruity with hints of violets on the nose, full bodied, slightly tannic, with a lively acidity.
